Opel Innovation - FlexRide

FlexRide – Adapts car behaviour for a better ride

FlexRide acts in two ways. Firstly, it lets you switch between three different driving modes to suit your mood: Normal, relaxed Touring or exciting Sport. And then, regardless of which mode you’re in, it automatically adjusts the damping to provide maximum safety and control.

Watt’s link rear axle: Better handling, more stability and even more comfort

The compound crank rear axle has been enhanced with the cleverly positioned Watt’s link to ensure excellent performance on every road. This innovative rear axle layout has advantages in size, weight and efficiency over a classical multi-link axel design. It also improves safety: the pivoting center link is attached to the underbody where it absorbs lateral forces on the suspension caused when cornering. Originally found in racing and rally cars, this technology has been further developed by Opel to reduce the noise of the road in the cabin.

HiPerStrut front suspension

For maximum grip with virtually zero torque steer, the GTC’s front suspension comes with high-performance struts (HiPerStruts for short), a sophisticated feature normally reserved for only a few radical sports cars of this size.

More performance, less consumption: Downsizing with ecoFLEX engines

Our new turbocharged ecoFLEX engines make a very impressive case for the principles of downsizing. With friction-optimized valve trains, sodium-filled exhaust valves, shortened pistons and an overboost function, the engines raise performance and torque while lowering consumption and emissions.

Intelligent BiTurbo diesel technology

The 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI engine with 143 kW (195 hp) and 400 Nm of torque is designed to deliver especially agile, responsive and fluid performance under acceleration. The highlight of the four-cylinder common rail engine is the sequential double turbo system with two charging stages. This technology has so far been limited to a few higher priced brands. However, Opel is now making it accessible also in the compact class.

Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection engines

With 125 kW (170 hp) up to 280 Nm torque and frugal consumption, the tech savvy direct injected 1.6 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection proves down sizing doesn’t have to mean depowering. Its bigger brother, the 2.0 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection boasts 184 kW (250 hp) – also a benchmark in its displacement class. Beside outstanding efficiency, both engines also excel in extraordinary smooth and quiet driving comfort.

1.0 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection

Downsized consumption and emissions meet full-sized refinement and big-hearted power. The new 3-cylinder 1.0 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection engines use the best in direct injection and turbo technology to make them superbly efficient. A choice of 66 kW (90 hp) or 85 kW (115 hp) of economical driving fun with just 99 g/km CO2 puts the ADAM way out ahead.
